The karyatype af faur species af East African birds were investigated,
i.e. Cha~comitra amethystina, Plocepassep mahali, Ploceus intePmedius
and Bupfagus erythrorhychus. The Nectarinid Chalcomitra shaws an unusual
karyatype mace up af a large number af minute chramasames; a com
parison between the two Placeids reveals important karyological diffe
rences; the oxpecker shows the basic karyotype of the Sturnidae.

Osservazioni su un campione di nidi hanno permesso di descrivere lo svolgi
mento della nidificazione e il comportamento di adulti e giovani. I risul~
tati confermano e precisano per la Nitticora quanto già noto per al~ri Ardei~~
e.Nuove osservazioni riguardano il comportamento durante le nutrizio
ni, che avvengono per rigurgito nel nido fino a 15 giorni di età dei giova
ni, e per imbeccata dopo, e la mortalità dei pulcini, che si verifica in
maggior misura nella prima metà dello sviluppo.

In the 1argest Ita1ian co1ony of the Wiskered Tern, 200-240 pairs nested
in 1980 and 150-170 in 1981. Oata on c1utch size, egg measurements, in –
terspecific and intraspecific aggressive behaviour are reported. Sexua1
dimorphism in the co1our of the cheek was noted in 5 pairs intensive1y
observed. From behavioura1 observations, a reasonab1e assumption is made
that white-cheeked individua1s are fema1e, dark-cheeked ones ma1es. “Fema1es”
took the heavier share in brooding activity.
