BEHAVIOUR OF LARUS ARGENTATUS MICHAHELLIS FEEDING ON MOLLUSCS A behaviour of Larus argentatus michaellis, feeding along the coast between .Pesaro and Fano (Aariatic ·Sea), is described. The adults and young; catch large Molluscs (Cardium sp , pl., Nac ti ra sp. etc.) thrown up on the beach, fly away wi t h the Molluscs in their beaks and drop them in order to break the.shells open and there afterfeed on the muscle. This behaviour was previously noticed only in the Northern subspecies L.a. argentatus. Larus melanoaephalus was also present in the area.
