Abstract:

The Magpie is absent from most of the islands of the Mediterranean, including Sardinia and the surrouding small islands. The authors report on the regular presence of Magpie on the island of Asinara; they were fìrts noticed during an ornithological expedition in 1982. From the information gathered, it appears that th ese bird discended from a couple released frorn captivity by a convict in the area "Cala d'Oliva" (Northern part of the island) most likely during the years immediately preceeding the 1st World War.
