Abstract:

The karyatype af faur species af East African birds were investigated, i.e. Cha~comitra amethystina, Plocepassep mahali, Ploceus intePmedius and Bupfagus erythrorhychus. The Nectarinid Chalcomitra shaws an unusual karyatype mace up af a large number af minute chramasames; a com parison between the two Placeids reveals important karyological diffe rences; the oxpecker shows the basic karyotype of the Sturnidae.
